Globe & Mail Style story shot by Angela Lewis
May 29, 2012 § Leave a comment
The Globe & Mail had me on as their photographer at Black Creek Pioneer Village (we collectively called it BCPV) to shoot their Style section on Bohemian Bridal.
I was so into this concept, but the location was what had me feeling all nostalgic and giddy inside. Pioneer Village was one of my favourite class trip adventures ever and it was mostly because I got to dress up in lots of doily-like clothing and a bonnet.. No bonnets were worn on the shoot day, but it was there in my imagination.
Thanks everyone involved for a wonderful day!

Tripple ‘A’ title on this post!
I had Amirah El-Safty sit in a white boxed room alone, while she listened to music/sounds that I chose. This is part of an ongoing series, but here’s a snippet from our shoot. See it also on Pushforward Artist Media.

I am pleased to report that a feature story I shot for The Grid’s Photo Editor Shelbie Vermette and Creative Director Vanessa Wyse just picked up a little bit o’ recognition. The story which focused on Toronto’s Parkdale region won an Award of Excellence in the Society For News Design Annual Creative Competition. Whew- that’s a mouthful.
Here’s a big virtual high five to Shelbie and Vanessa.

Invisible Who? A what? .. Where??!!
Hi, its Angela here. To continue our new spin on the grasshopper blog, I would like to bring your attention to this fantastic artist, better known as the Invisible Man. Liu Bolin is a Chinese artist who likes to play tricks on the human eye (something I support fondly) by painting himself into random scenes. In school, we were assigned a similar project, where I painted a girl playing the piano.. I tried to find it in the archives but I think its long gone. Liu’s recent work is a tribute to those who were lost during September 11, as he stands in front of the Freedom Tower in NYC.. I’m inspired! See it all here.
Angela + Grid = Fashion Week fun

Angela Lewis photographed two (already plenty fashionable) Grid employees for their “sneaking into Toronto Fashion Week” spread. Angela’s personal favourite piece is the Jonathan & Olivia bird shirt (along with the Portlandia reference they made to go along side it). If you click on the image above you can see it much larger and read all the square bubbles. And if you’re wondering what Adam and Nikki looked like before the fashion makeover, see the “before” shots here . Maybe we’ll be checking you out at Fashion Week!
Wallpaper Wednesday: Aristea Rizakos

It’s Wednesday y’all and time to learn. This week Aristea Rizakos makes us scratch our skull and examine the definition of the word logic. We can’t help but wonder how may of us have used the word “schwa” in a sentence recently. Yes a schwa looks like an upside down “e” and has something to do with pronunciation but that’s where our knowledge ends. Oh well, that’s what you get with a bunch of visual people.
